Lynas made this mix a few nights ago, and as far as I know, it's a YW exclusive. So rock out with your socks out to this bass drum heavy compilation of relative classics and less-known bangers. On another note, NSR is performing and Ian Boyd is spinning at Ella tonight. I'll be there (big surprise). Enjoy the sream and the download...hopefully I'll see you later.
Are you there, Electro? It's me, Lynas.
Lynas wrote out the track listing differently than I normally do. The first thing after the number is the song name, followed by a dash and then the band name with the version in parenthesis.

YW Pregame Playlist: Roids and Beans
"They pick me (to be tested) every time," Ortiz told the Boston Globe, in 2005. "I don't know why. I don't know if it's because I'm a big guy, or what, but all I know is all they are going to find is a lot of rice and beans." Word up.
Let's talk music. The first song is for Big Papi. Next is In the Jungle by the Beach Boys, even though I think I put it on last week's playlist. Whatever, everything associated with this song is awesome- The Beach Boys, The Lion King, and the scene from Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls, when Ace climbs out of the rhino's butt!
I threw the official Bohemian Rhapsody music video in there too, and it's worth a watch. So is the Beautiful Swimmers Oh Yea video (which I posted last month). Crystal Cat by Dan Deacon is the fifth track. Dude is a wilder, in the best sense of the word, and I love everything about this song and video. Next we have Too Many Puppies which was the bizarre second single off Primus' first studio album Frizzle Fry. It is followed by Night of the Living Dope by New York based rapper Curtains. Crazy things.
Now, let's talk a bit about Wolfgang Gartner. Originally Joey Youngman, this Cali born, Austin based producer is like an electro-house version of Daft Punk. I would cut off two, no, three of my fingers to spend a day in his studio. Gartner has a sound which is simultaneously hard and pretty, although at times his songs are just bonkers (see track ten). I put three of his songs in a row on this playlist.
Next is a brand new banger by Bart Bmore, followed by GTO's Love is Everywhere (Reach for the Sky mix)....It is a good song, and also substitutes a video with a very strange picture of a frog dog. I decided to put the 1995 Bucketheads' anthem The Bomb on here right before Pitbull's Calle Ocho in case anyone wanted to know where the sample was from. Of course, The Bucketheads sample Chicago's Street Player, which burnt down discos across America in 1979.
Since the last-mentioned song brought us back to the vinyl era, I figured I would keep it real with Getaway by Earth, Wind, & Fire very. Let's Dance by David Bowie is number seventeen on the playlist, and everyone knows that it's a great one.
But we gotta take it to the streets, and what better way to do that then putting on some Kingpin Skinny Pimp? BVMUndergroundHipHop wrote this of Skinny, "Although not quite as well known nationally as some of his Memphis counterparts, Kingpin Skinny Pimp is, without a doubt, one of the Deep Souths most revered rappers. He is a ten-year veteran with over eight independent albums totaling over 300,000 in sales, whose smooth rapid-fire flow has influenced legions of wannabes." Scarface's One Minute to Pray, One Second to Die certainly allows us to understand why the Houston OG is so often compared to Pac. I finish it out with Where do you go my Lovely by Peter Sarstedt, and he's about as street as one can be.
BK tonight, maybe Webster Hall on the late, probably Ella at some point. Here is a link to the playlist on youtube. The track listing is below. Enjoy the music and have a gewd weekend.
1) Afroman- Because I got High
2) The Beach Boys- In the Jungle
3) Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody
4) Beautiful Swimmers- Oh Yea
5) Dan Deacon- Crystal Cat

8) Wolfgang Gartner- Push and Rise
9) Wolfgang Gartner- Killer
10) Wolfgang Gartner- Bounce
11) Bart Bmore- Basement Beats
12) GTO- Love is Everywhere (Reach for the Sky mix)
13) The Bucketheads- The Bomb
14) Pitbull- I Know you Want me (Calle Ocho)
15) Chicago- Street Player
16) Earth, Wind, & Fire- Getaway
17) David Bowie- Let's Dance
18) Kingpin Skinny Pimp featuring Three 6 Mafia- One Life 2 Live
19) Scarface - One Minute To Pray a Second to Die
20) Peter Sarstedt- Where Do You Go my Lovely

YW Pregam Playlist: Don Dotta Muzics
Happy with this one. Start out with a Machine parody of Day 'N' Nite, followed by a song off the new Grizzly Bear album (awesome). After that I have the Vieux Farka Toure song Ana. Farka Toure, who I had the amazing opportunity to see at Bonnaroo, is the son of Malian blues-guitar legend Ali Farka Toure. Next we have the Toots and the Maytals version of Fever, followed by Louie Rankin's (Ox from Belly, he kills people for nothing, don't talk to him bout that scared shit...find the actual quote and post, please!) track Typewriter. Next is Craig Mack's classic Flava in Your Ear, followed by new songs by Lupe, Drake (repost, see Strats' strats from earlier), and Cudi, with an old Gangstarr banger in the mix. From the one hit wonder jar, I pulled Tripping Daisy's I Gotta Girl. Otis Redding's version of Hard to Handle (J Store put me on!), British pop diva LuLu's 1965 version of shout, and Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. I finish it out with Heartbreaker by MSTRKRFT featuring John Legend, Kelly Khumalo's Kwaito-dance hit Qinisela, and four awesome Calvin Harris remixes (dude's got the Midas Touch).
I'm thinking BK, Topsiderz and Vodka tonight. Hit me up if you're interested. Here is the playlist in original form. Tracklisting below the embedded playlist. Enjoy the music and the weekend.
1) Machine- Day 'N' Nite Parody

YW Pregame Playlist: Vive le Rois
Today, in the wake of the King of Pop's passing, we have chosen to largely overlook the last decade or so of Jackson's life; riddled with rumours, reports, stories and allegations ranging from the bizarre to the awful. I think this was a conscious decision made by a society comprised of individuals who, for the most part, have a Michael Jackson fan somewhere inside of themselves. We remember the good and the great, a phenomenal singer, dancer, and entertainer. Let us allow the strange "Jacko" chapter of pop culture to fade into obscurity, to die yesterday and never be resurrected, and at the same time, let us never forget the legacy and music of Michael Joseph Jackson. In the words of Keanu Reeves in Point Break, "Via con Dios".
Chester French and Kid Cudi have a free show at South Street Seaport at 6. A bunch of fellow wilders are getting down on the Convival Gentry party tonight at Public Assembly in Willy B.
Furthermore, I'd like to wish a happy birthday to YW contributor Rodney Angerfield who turns H88 today.
This is playlist is all Michael Jackson and basically in chronological order. Here is the link if you want to listen on youtube.
Enjoy.

YW Pregame Playlist:Roller: Around the World in 20 Songs
This morning when I started thinking about the pregame all I knew is that I wanted to start with Dum Maro Dum. Our friend Sarah Rayani is working on a cover right now, and it has been in my head all week. I was listening to the song structure and started thinking about the differences and similarities between music. I decided to try to pick a song from a country which bordered Dum Maro Dum's country of origin (India). Then I just kept going- From India to Pakistan...the long way.
I break it down for you below the embedded playlist, which you can find in its original form here.
1) Zeeet Aman- Dum Maro Dum (lead vocals by Asha Bhosle Dev Anand). From India. Classic song. Made in 1971.
Go Northeast
2) 琵琶:阳春白雪. From China My Mandarin is a bit rusty but I think this translates to AWESOME FUCKING INSTRUMENT. Often known as the Chinese lute, my dad put me on to the Pipa this morning.
Go North
3) T.A.T.U.- All the Things She Said. From Russia. The worlds two hottest Russian lesbian pop-stars are not actually lesbians. But this song is actually timeless.
Go East over the Bering Straits
4) Jewel- Who Will Save Your Soul. From the US. I felt like I had to choose an Alaskan, so Jewel was basically a no brainer. Quasi Side Note: When Beauregard P. Grimes hears this song, he turns into Jennifer Connelly in Higher Learning.
Go Southwest
5) MSTRKRFT- Easy Love. From Canada. I think I have put this song in a pregame playlist before. It's good for the krunking.
Go South
6) The Bad News- Soul Shine Down. From the US. This band sucks but the video is cool.
Go South from the Florida Keys.
7) Buena Vista Social Club- Chan Chan. From Cuba. One of the great songs of the last twenty years. No Joke
Go Southeast
8) Buju Banton- Champion. From Jamaica. He might hate gay people with a passion, but dude has such a cool voice.
Go South over the Caribbean Sea.
9) Marta Gomez- La Ronda. From Colombia. Gomez is one of the cornerstone artists in traditional Colombian music. Kind of like a mix between Calypso, Afro Jazz, and Bossanova which makes perfect sense, geographically speaking.
Go South/ Southeast
10) CSS- Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above. From Brazil. Of the five members of CSS, four are female and surprisingly not ridiculously hot. Don't you have this idea in your head that all Brazilians are smoking? I don't know. Visuals aside, CSS rocks so well that I would happily pipe any of them (not the chubby guy).
Go South
11) Manu Chao- Maradona. From Argentina. I know little about the little (big) European country on the bottom half of South America, but I would be willing to bet that Manu Chao and Maradona are among the most popular people there.
Go East.
Geographical Sidenote: If you sail east from Argentina to the Falkland Islands (one of the largest South-Atlantian Archipelego's), you would be entering the United Kingdom upon docking. The two countries actually fought a war over the Falklands.
12) The Kooks- Sofa Song (Live Acoustic Version) From the UK. YW loves the Kooks.
Go South across the Channel.
13) La Caution- The A La Menthe (Ocean's Twelve Remix) From France. The original has bad French rappers on it. This one makes me want to steal fancy eggs with my dance moves.
Go Southeast
14) Crookers- Knobbers. From Italy. Thought I'd throw in some hardbody fidget house before we go to the Arab world.
Go South Across the Mediterranean Sea.
15) Ahmed Fakroun- Loopayfih Ahscoh. From Libya. For the next half of an hour, this playlist will sound like my deli. S'all Good. Ahmed Fakroun is like the Trick Daddy of Tripoli.
Go East
16) Ali Hassan Kuban- Mabruk. From Egypt. This song is great. Def my favourite from this region. Not a huge surprise, Egypt, and more specifically Cairo is considered the epicenter of Arab Music.
Go East
17) Tallal Maddah- Suwaiaat Alaseel. From Saudi Arabia. This song is about stoning women for driving. The picture on the youtube screen for this song is the best album cover I have ever seen.
Go Northeast
18) Kathem Al Sahir- Ha Habiby. From Iraq. The production is dreadful but Al Sahir is cool I guess.
Go East.
19) Hami Sharif - Delam Gereft (Sam Va Narges) From Iran. Sorry for the somber mood and depressing video, but I wanted to find a song that would present Iran as distinct from the Middle East, The Stans, and South Asia. Iranian's are have a long and rich cultural tradition which was largely lost (to the public eye) after 1953 and again in 1979.
Go Southeast
20) Noor Jehaan-Jaa Jaa Wey TeinuuN Dil Dittaa. From Pakistan. What a way to end this. Noor Jehan is a legend of South Asian music and silver screen.
Go Southeast... I'll see you there.

YW PreGame Playlist: Arrow Threw ya Heart
So, your boy is back again. I apologize for my general lack of posts in the past two weeks. Just got the internet hooked up in the new apartment a couple days ago, and we still don't have a wireless router, so its been a bit tough to write. I assure you that I will resume my regular post-rate very, very soon. Now, let's discuss the playlist. The first half is pretty light hearted: we start with a Richard Pryor skit from Sesame Street, followed by DMX's unintentionally hilarious song "My Niggas". Next is the Broad Street Bully's silly classic "I Don't Do Much" and Cam's relatively new internet single "I Hate my Job". The "Mic Check" remix with Jeezy and Weezy is next and then Jazzy Jeff and Peedi Peedi's "New Funk" which, of course, is great. We got the sexy and slightly obscure Sylvers hit "Disco Fever" and the cheesy worldwide hit "Aicha" by Cheb Khaled who I am pretty sure works at Nadal Deli (Das Racist!). We follow it with the best song in the history of sound aka "My Secret Lover" by Private. ATC's "Around the World" closes out the first half of the playlist in the most sampy manner of which I could think.
The Second half is all electronic dance shit. Daft Punk, Steve Aoki, Fake Blood, D.I.M., a bit of Justice, a Bloody Beetroots track, Crookers, Herve, and Song 2 by Blur.
Lynas' Bday at Arrow Bar- be there or be somewhere else- but be there if you know whats good for you. Here is the direct link to the playlist on Youtube. See ya later.

YW Pregame Playlist: What Kind of Jerk Would Re-Post an old Playlist?
ME. No internet yet at the new cut, and an extremely busy week has led to my general absence on YW, and for that I apologize. I think I made this playlist before I went to Boys Noize in the fall, and guess who is back in town tonight?

Yw Pregame Playlist: 200th Post!
In order to celebrate my remarkable and inconsequential achievement, I'm wearing a birthday hat, and eating a cake with a lit parliament in it. Delicious. The loose theme of this playlist was moving, because I am moving to a palace. Turns out that there are a lot of shitty songs about moving, travelling, running, and the likes, so I just did me.
The first track is a very interesting jam session with Ali Farka Toure and another Malian guitarist. Farka compares (in French with subtitles) African and Black American music. Second, I have a video of Leadbelly doing a rendition of Pick a Bale of Cotton in 1945. It is followed by Toumani Diabate's exquisite song Tapha Niang off the acclaimed Boulevard d'Independence album. Next is Common's tribute to Fela Kuti, which would have been a great transition from roots music to rap, but I decided to keep it barefoot for a minute with Jack Johnson's Holes to Heaven, and an acoustic version of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's hit Maps. We have a very long rendition of Campo by Yerbabuena, which is probably the best contemporary Nuyorican fusion band. Jorge Ben's Take it Easy My Brother Charlie and Elvis Crespo's sauvamente close out the world music smorgessbourg, and we get into some travel-based rap by Mos, Lupe, Luda, Clipse, LL Cool Gay, and Adam Tensta. Before all that, however, I threw in Somali rapper K'naan's track Somalia, as it is awesome. Homey is doing big things these days, and in an age of robot music and flashing lights, he has a refreshing take on hip hop. I keep the Tron in my name by closing it out with a few certified, very popular club bangers by Daft Punk, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice and MSTRKRFT (thats like the quadrafecta of electro thugging).
See me, a travers le monde. The tracklisting is below the embedded playlist and here is the direct link. Catch you on the flip.
1) Ali Farka Toure- Jam Session
2) Leadbelly- Pick a Bale of Cotton
3) Touani Diabate- Tapha Niang

YW's Pregame Playlist: Da Nag Champa is Here
Oooweeee. This playlist makes me want to tag-up on the bulletproof glass infront of my bodega's counter, rummage through my parents basement for my old Ecko hoodie and Girbaud jeans with the velcro, cop a nickle bag and drink a forty on a rock in Riverside Park. That being said, this is not exactly the playlist I wanted to make (pretty close), but because the music industry has been cracking down on non licensed youtube uploads, it is getting increasingly harder to find embeddeble music, particularly hip hop. Therefore, a lot of these song are not of the highest sound quality. But it's all good, still turned out fuego. Comme d'habitude, the tracklisting is after the embedded playlist and here is the link to its original form on youtube.

YW Pregame Playlist: Miracle on Thayer St.
This is probably my most eclectic pregame playlist yet. It starts with a Doc Watson and Clarence Ashley recording of House of the Rising Sun from the sixties. Ashley is widely considered to be the first person to record 'Rising Sun' in 1934 (although I couldn't find that version. Got a couple rare Dilla remixes (Kick in the Door and Dirt off Your Shoulders), as well as I Put a Spell on You by Screaming Jay Hawkins, which is the song that Primo sampled on Kick in the Door. Keep it approachable for the old school in you with some Cypress Hill and Naughty by Nature, or your inner 30 year old white man (Pixies, Rage), or even that tiny little part of you that is an old British punk. Hip hop heads will appreciate Fab over We Go Hard, the Clipse and Pharell gem Hello New World, and Diplo's wild remix of Hip Hop by DP. And of course, for all you fiends, I GOTS THAT CRACK. Plenty of hardbody electro and house largely due to the hardbody brilliance of Count and Sinden. The tracklisting is below the embedded playlist, and if you have problems on YW, here is a direct link to the youtube version. Fuck with me.
